Brenda joined Swart, Lalande & Associates, P.C. (SLA) in 1998. As a senior manager in the firm’s tax department, she oversees all estate, gift and trust engagements for SLA. Brenda specializes in providing clients with reliable estate and trust services, which include the preparation of estate tax, estate and trust income tax returns, and court accountings. In addition, she maintains expertise with the preparation of individual income tax returns for beneficiaries and family members.
Brenda began her public accounting career in 1998 when she joined SLA. Previously, she served as a volunteer for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), an IRS sponsored tax preparation program for low-income and elderly taxpayers. Brenda assisted VITA for three consecutive tax seasons.
With more than a decade of experience in the estate, gift and trust tax arenas, Brenda has developed the necessary expertise to meet her clients’ unique needs. Over the years, she has found that her job requires not only a deep understanding of accounting, but also some psychology skills in handling clients’ issues. Brenda is the developer of SLA’s Estate Administration Handbook and Estate Planning Handbook.
Brenda attributes her professional success to her desire to learn and succeed. She also credits her parents, who instilled in her the value of hard work. Brenda has developed a strong work ethic as a result of her parents’ influence.
Born and raised in Maine, Brenda spent 24 years of her adult life in various states around the country after marrying an Air Force officer. Today she and her husband reside in Manassas, Virginia. Together they have two sons. In her free time, Brenda enjoys reading, walking and spending time with her two dogs. She is also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
