Kevin joined Swart, Lalande & Associates, P.C. (SLA) in 1989 following his college graduation. As a shareholder of the firm, he specializes in providing expert accounting, tax, financial statement and consulting services for small to mid-sized organizations.
Kevin oversees SLA’s Not-for-profit Organizations Services Group and works with a range of not-for-profit organizations such as trade associations, foundations, private schools, churches and large homeowners associations. Additionally, he serves a wide array of other businesses, including government contractors, professional services firms, real estate development and investment firms, automobile dealerships and closely-held businesses.
Kevin has over 20 years of experience in the accounting industry, all of which have come as a member of the SLA team. Over the years, his extensive background has proven instrumental in helping clients accomplish their unique goals. In one recent example, Kevin helped the owner of a mid-sized business navigate a new set of net operating loss (NOL) carryback tax laws. Through proactive planning in years prior to the new laws, he was able to help his client maximize their tax refunds even as the economy transitioned into a recession.
Growing up, Kevin learned from his father and grandfather that owning a business can be a great path to success and happiness. Seeing them both succeed inspired him to strive for the same level of success and personal satisfaction. The accounting profession, which Kevin feels is the foundation upon which successful small businesses rely to accomplish their goals, seemed to be the most meaningful route to his ultimate destination. Today he attributes his success to meeting client needs and deadlines and performing high quality work. He also credits his father, an orthopedic surgeon, who instilled in him the value of hard work. Kevin has always strived to emulate his father, who truly enjoys helping his patients, by working hard to meet his own clients’ needs.
Kevin was raised in northern Virginia and currently resides in South Riding. He and his wife have two sons. Kevin’s parents and siblings also live in northern Virginia. Outside the office, he enjoys playing golf and skiing.
