“As President of Swart, Lalande & Associates, it is my job to ensure clients receive the same level of service we would expect, while giving them the respect and undivided attention they deserve. Through my daily client interaction, I perpetually strive to accomplish three goals: be proactive, honest and fair. This helps not only ensure client satisfaction, but ultimately leads to client loyalty, referrals and continued success for the firm and our clients.”
Paul joined Swart, Lalande & Associates, P.C. (SLA) in 1994. As President and Managing Shareholder of SLA, he guides the firm’s strategy and day-to-day operations, working toward the overall growth and profitability of the firm. Paul also plays a key role in the firm’s marketing and administrative functions.
Beyond his leadership responsibilities, Paul serves as a true business partner to his clients, helping them make ideal business decisions to ensure their continued financial well-being. He specializes in assisting high net worth individuals and closely-held businesses with their tax, accounting and consulting needs. Paul serves a diverse client base, including those in the professional services, real estate rentals and development, retail and manufacturing industries.
Paul’s professional background might suggest the saying “if you let something go and it’s meant to be, it will come back to you” really is true. After beginning his career as a staff accountant at SLA in 1980, he left the firm in 1984 to pursue other opportunities. More specifically, Paul worked as a supervisor at Laventhol & Horwath (formerly M.B. Hariton & Company) for three years and as a partner at Kearney & Company for seven years. He came back to SLA as a shareholder in 1994.
Paul developed an interest in the accounting field due to the opportunity to work with different types of businesses and people. In addition, he wanted to understand what makes businesses successful. Today Paul attributes his success to his parents, Irish immigrants who came to the U.S. in 1947. Through their hard work, discipline and faith, they were able to raise six children. Paul credits his parents for instilling in him the values of hard work, honesty and loyalty.
Born in Washington, D.C., Paul was raised in Fairfax where he resides today with his wife, Lori. He has one son and three step-sons. While away from the office, Paul can often be found outdoors, where his hobbies include sports of all kinds, especially golf, as well as boating and water sports. He also enjoys spending time with his family and meeting new people.
