Sarah joined Swart, Lalande & Associates, P.C. (SLA) in 2005. She currently serves as a manager handling both tax and assurance work. In her day-to-day client responsibilities, Sarah assists businesses with the preparation of tax returns and financial statements, as well as fraud prevention and examination services. She is also well-versed in preparing individual tax returns. Sarah primarily serves clients in the real estate industry.
Beyond her client and managerial duties, Sarah has proven to be a valuable asset to the SLA team by enhancing the firm’s technologies and processes. In particular, she managed the firm’s transition to paperless audit software. Sarah’s role included training the firm’s staff, installing updates and determining best practices for software use.
Prior to joining SLA, Sarah worked for two years at Paternostro & DeFreitas, LLP, now known as DeFreitas & Minsky, LLP, in Jericho, New York. There she performed comprehensive tax services for both businesses and individuals. Sarah also assisted a labor union with a high profile audit, as well as some compilations, reviews and consolidated financials. She began her career in 2003.
Sarah has always been extremely detail oriented and good with numbers, two attributes which inspired her to pursue a career in the accounting industry. During college, she found accounting to be a very direct career path with opportunity for growth and advancement, further validating her decision.
Sarah was born and raised on Long Island, New York and currently resides in Arlington, Virginia. In her spare time, she enjoys shopping, snowboarding and traveling.
