Sean joined Swart, Lalande & Associates, P.C. (SLA) in 1997 and currently serves as a senior manager. He specializes in serving government contractors, with particular emphasis in the professional services and construction sectors. Sean also maintains expertise in working with not-for-profit entities, including churches, private schools and civic organizations, and general business development.
Prior to joining SLA, Sean worked in the accounting and finance departments of BDM International, Inc., a government contracting organization based in McLean, Virginia. He spent a total of four years at the multinational IT company, including three years as an intern, where his responsibilities ranged from accounts payable to cash management. Sean began his professional career in 1997.
Throughout his 13-plus year career in the accounting field, Sean has built a solid foundation of skills and knowledge which benefit both his clients and his peers. More specifically, he has successfully guided numerous clients through the complex Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) audit. Additionally, Sean participated in the Risk Assessment Guide Working Group to help develop a manuscript for the Auditing Standards Board. He also contributed to a 2009 article entitled, “Best Practices in Audit Risk Assessment” for the Journal of Accountancy, a publication of the AICPA.
Sean was inspired to pursue an accounting career by his father, Terry, a shareholder at SLA. He was also drawn to the profession due to his knack for comprehending accounting and finances. Today Sean attributes his success to his natural ability to work closely with clients and co-workers. Additionally, he credits his background in the Boy Scouts and as a gymnast, where he developed valuable leadership skills and learned the importance of being prepared and training with a purpose.
Sean was born and raised in northern Virginia and currently resides in Stone Ridge. He and his wife have three daughters. Outside the office, Sean stays active by running, lifting weights, swimming, playing golf and going to the beach. He also enjoys coaching his daughters’ recreational soccer teams and taking his family on Disney vacations.
